Customary reconciliations councils are used as a means to resolve conflict, functioning as a parallel judiciary.

The government continues to sponsor these sessions, despite trying to downplay their involvement.

Some members of the judiciary are disdainful of the practice calling reconciliation practices “a threat to the civil state.”
